Patriots Drake Maye Provides Important Update On Shoulder Injury, Illness
The New England Patriots are getting ready for the Super Bowl, and all eyes are on Drake Maye, specifically his right shoulder.
Maye missed practice on Friday, with Mike Vrabel noting that had it not been for an illness, he would have practiced. He made the trip to San Francisco and was seen carrying his bag in his right hand, which could be a good sign.
On Monday night, Maye spoke to reporters and provided an update on his injury and practice status ahead of the Super Bowl.
“I threw a good bit (today). I threw as much as I would in a practice, and it felt great,” Maye said.
“I feel good,” Maye added. “I’ll be just fine.”
The Patriots had a bonus practice on Monday, and it appears Maye threw as much as in a normal practice. Vrabel noted that on Thursday, he did not throw as much as he normally would have, which is why he was limited.
Maye figures to be top two in MVP Award voting and has been stellar this season. He finished the regular season with 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns, 450 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
He was a Second-Team All-Pro and led the league in completion percentage, passer rating and quarterback rating. His status going into the game is very important, but it seems unlikely he will miss the game.
If he is not 100%, the Patriots could have a tough time against the Seattle Seahawks elite defense. The Patriots’ offense has not been great in the postseason, but it has been good enough.
Maye and Vrabel have noted that the offense needs to play better, but it is worth noting that two of their three playoff games have come in less-than-ideal throwing conditions. The Patriots will have their hands full with the Seahawks defense, and having Maye at 100% could be the difference.
