A$AP Rocky Loves Liam Gallagher’s Nickname for Him
Being teased by Liam Gallagher is somewhat of a rite of passage for the biggest stars in music — at least, that's how A$AP Rocky sees the nod from the iconic vocalist.
Playing during a commercial break with host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, A$AP and Fallon sang a snippet of the Britpop classic Bitter Sweet Symphony by the Verve. The Verve's lead singer, Richard Ashcroft, opened for Oasis during their gargantuan Live '25 reunion tour last summer, and the pair got talking about the Oasis frontman's comments about A$AP.
Liam Gallagher Called A$AP Rocky ‘WhatsApp Ricky'
"Liam [Gallagher] calls me 'WhatsApp Ricky,'" A$AP told a shocked Fallon with a big smile on his face. "Liam calls you WhatsApp Ricky?!" the host exclaimed, before the two burst into fits of laughter.
"We've got to talk to Liam about this!" Jimmy giggled.
Back in 2017, the Britpop legend coined the nickname for the rapper in a discussion with GQ about what music he and his family listen to — minus his brother and fellow Oasis member Noel Gallagher, who he was still estranged from at the time.
"My kids f--king love grime music. Stormzy,Skepta - he seems pretty mad. I like him," he told the magazine.
"They also like that bloke, WhatsApp Ricky. You know, the American geezer, stylish, funny, gold teeth... " Liam continued. The interviewer asked for clarification about whether he meant A$AP Rocky, which he confirmed, apparently learning what his real name was.
"Oh yeah, that's the fella," Gallagher replied after clarification. "WhatsApp Ricky. That's a better f--king name anyway".
A$AP certainly seems to enjoy the compliments from the star, which is an even rarer comment to get from the famously cheeky Brit. He's also taking the name mix-up in his stride, too.
Oasis are not scheduled to tour in 2026. However, Liam has dropped some heavy hints about plans to go on the road again with Noel in 2027.
