Savannah Guthrie Speaks Out After Homicide Detectives Get Involved In Mom's 'Concerning' Disappearance
Savannah Guthrie broke her silence on the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy.
The Today show host was absent from the Monday, Feb. 2 broadcast after her mom was reported missing in Arizona. Sheinelle Jones stepped in to cover for Guthrie alongside Craig Melvin, who addressed the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
“We want to get right to what is a deeply personal story for us. Nancy Guthrie, Savannah’s beloved mother, has been reported missing in Arizona,” Melvin shared.
Guthrie, 54, shared a statement to the Today show, saying, “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
Nancy was reported missing by a family member on Sunday, Feb. 1. Nancy was last seen on Saturday night at around 9:30 p.m. local time at her home in Catalina Foothills, according to a press conference hosted by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, via Page Six.
“We’re pretty much just throwing everything at this that we can. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health, and so naturally that’s a great concern,” Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters, per Fox News. Nanos also confirmed that homicide detectives are investigating the scene at Nancy’s house, as it raised “some concern for us as well.” They are not ruling out foul play as of this moment.
“This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” Nanos said.
Nanos confirmed that Nancy is of “good sound mind” but has some physical ailments that limit her mobility. She’s also without essential daily medication.
Nancy became a widow at 46 when Savannah’s father passed away. The NBC anchor was just 16 years old. Savannah is the youngest of three and has an older sister, Annie Guthrie, and an older brother, Camron Guthrie.
