Charli xcx Gives One Reason She Probably Won't Do James Bond
With James Bond headed for a massive comeback, conversations about the music are almost as intense as speculation about the next 007 actor. While almost nobody can agree on their favorite Bond title song ever, there does seem to be a general sentiment that, for the first time since Sam Smith crooned "Writing's on the Wall" for the 2015 Bond film Spectre, a singer or band from the U.K. could do the next big Bond song. Noel Gallagher of Oasis has thrown his hat in the ring, but what about Charli xcx?
"I think I probably sing with too much AutoTune to do a James Bond," Charli xcx said in an interview with The Julia Cunningham Show, as reported by NME. " I don’t think that I am built for that."
That said, the BRAT star did not rule it out entirely, noting, in a very Bond-esque fashion: "Never say never."
Earlier this year, Noel Gallagher pushed for the idea that a Brit (like himself or Charli xcx) should do the next Bond song, because it should be done by someone from the U.K., "not yanks."
As of this writing, there's no real set of rumors or inside information about the next Bond song. That said, the next composer for the score is almost certainly Hans Zimmer. Not only did Zimmer compose the score for the previous Bond film, No Time to Die, but he also collaborated with Denis Villeneuve on several films, including both Dune films and Blade Runner: 2049. For No Time to Die, Zimmer collaborated with Billie Eilish and FINNEAS for the song "No Time to Die."
