Liverpool drives forward Marmot City agenda through Fairer, Healthier Partnership
Partners from across Liverpool came together on Monday 26th January for a meeting of the Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Partnership, reaffirming the city’s commitment to tackling poverty, reducing health inequalities, and improving the building blocks of good health for every resident.
Hosted by Liverpool John Moores University, with thanks to Professor Tim Nichol and his team, the meeting brought together partners from across health, housing, education, community services, and the voluntary sector. Chaired by Cllr Ruth Bennett, the session underscored Liverpool’s ambition as a Marmot City, a status formally awarded to the city in 2025 in recognition of its commitment to reducing health inequalities through systemwide action.
“Liverpool has always been a city that stands together, said Councillor Ruth Bennett, Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council.
“As a Marmot City, we are committed to addressing the root causes of health inequalities, not just the symptoms. This partnership is about turning that spirit into real, measurable change so every resident has the building blocks they need to live a healthy, fulfilling life.”
The meeting included a spotlight session on tackling poverty in Liverpool, with focused discussions on strengthening Liverpool City Council’s draft Anti-Poverty Framework and accelerating new proposals to address poverty faced by children and young people across the city.
Representatives attended from across Liverpool City Council, the NHS, Universities, Citizens Advice Liverpool, Liverpool Access to Advice Network (LATAN), End Furniture Poverty, Feeding Liverpool, Merseyside Youth Association, LCVS, Healthwatch Liverpool, Liverpool Learning Partnership, Health Equalities Group, Steve Biko Housing Association, The Rotunda, Merseyside Play Action Council (MPAC), and Trussell Trust Liverpool, demonstrating the scale of the collective ambition to create a fairer, healthier city.
The Partnership will continue to build momentum over the coming months, with further opportunities for organisations and residents to get involved. Together, Liverpool is shaping a future where fairness, health, and opportunity are not aspirations but realities for all.
