Female Suicide Bomber Among Militants in Deadly BLA Attacks in Pakistan’s Balochistan
A female suicide bomber carried out an attack during coordinated separatist assaults across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, causing heavy security and civilian casualties Saturday.
A 24-year-old woman identified as Asifa Mangal carried out a suicide attack targeting an intelligence facility in Nushki during coordinated assaults in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, according to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
The group said Mangal joined the separatist organization in 2023 and was later placed on its suicide attack roster before carrying out Saturday’s operation using explosives.
BLA militants launched coordinated attacks in more than ten areas across Balochistan, targeting security installations. Videos released by the group showed armed fighters, including women, equipped with modern weapons.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the attacks killed 17 security personnel from police, frontier forces, and naval units, while civilian deaths rose to 31.
He added that Pakistani security forces responded with large-scale operations, killing 145 militants within 40 hours, calling it one of the deadliest crackdowns on insurgents in recent years.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest and poorest province, has faced a long-running insurgency driven by separatist groups demanding greater autonomy and a larger share of local natural resources.
The BLA is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, Britain, and the European Union, while Pakistan has accused India of backing militants, an allegation New Delhi denies.
Security operations continue across the province, and analysts warn that without political and economic solutions, violence in Balochistan may persist despite ongoing military crackdowns.
