A Letter from CEO Kim Stone
Dear Investors,
January set the tone for what’s next for the Washington Spirit, and it did so in historic fashion.
On January 22, we re-signed Trinity Rodman and secured her long-term future with the club, a defining moment for the Spirit and the NWSL. With Trinity in USWNT camp in Southern California and our team already in preseason training in Florida, we did not have the time or logistics to hold the announcement in DC. We therefore brought the event to Los Angeles and staged it as a show, not a traditional press conference, to reflect the magnitude of the moment.
I want to thank Alexia Grevious Henderson, President of Magic Johnson Enterprises, for the referrals that enabled us to secure a venue and production partner capable of executing at that level. The event highlighted Trinity’s connection to fans and youth while also underscoring how far the Spirit has come over the past two seasons and the momentum driving us forward.
Hosted by Sebastian Salazar of ESPN and streamed live on YouTube and Zoom, the event drew more than 1,600 viewers, added 500 new YouTube subscribers, and generated social engagement that exceeded our NWSL Championship week. Earned media reach surpassed 6 billion impressions, with an estimated ad-equivalent value of more than $500 million. In her remarks, Trinity made clear that the DC fan base and community were central to her decision to stay with the Spirit. That validation matters as we continue to build a sustainable, elite organization.
January also marked the start of preseason, including the return of Andi Sullivan to daily training, and we celebrated an off-the-field milestone with the birth of Ashley Hatch’s son, Leo. We also strengthened our roster by signing 18-year-old Paraguayan forward Claudia Martínez to a three-year contract with a 2029 club option, reinforcing our commitment to building depth and long-term competitiveness.
In December, we announced Haley Carter as our new President of Soccer Operations. Haley joined the Spirit from the Orlando Pride, where she built the club into the 2024 NWSL Shield and Championship winner, and she further strengthens our commitment to sustained sporting excellence.
Our schedule is now live, featuring our home opener on March 13 at Audi Field and a District vs. Empire rematch against Gotham in DC on Saturday, October 17.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. You are always invited to join us at a match, and we are just getting started.
Let’s Go Spirit,
Kim
