Oakland man charged with sending sex worker to the hospital after robbery
OAKLAND — A city resident has been arrested and charged with using a pistol to beat a woman and rob her of $400 after paying her for sex, according to court records.
Alexander Stovall, 43, was charged with robbery and assault with a firearm on Jan. 26. Authorities allege that nine days before the case was filed, Stovall met a woman on the 700 block of International Boulevard, an area known for prostitution, and paid her $200.
But when they couldn’t agree on what was to take place next, Stovall allegedly became irate and attacked her. He allegedly beat her in the head with a pistol, then took back his $200 payment, as well as an additional $200 she had on her, according to court records.
The woman was able to get out of the vehicle. She snapped a picture of it as it drove away, then flagged down a passing motorist, who took her to the hospital, according to court records.
Stovall pleaded not guilty on Jan. 27, records show. He is no longer in jail after posting $150,000 bail. The charging records say that Stovall has six previous felony convictions, including for robbery in 2001, and gun possession in 2023.
