Lucy Letby’s parents blast new Netflix documentary as an ‘invasion of privacy’
A new Netflix documentary has been slammed by Lucy Letby’s parents as a ‘complete invasion of privacy’ and said it would ‘kill them’ to watch it.
‘The Investigation of Lucy Letby’ features unseen footage and unheard insider accounts about Britain’s most infamous convicted baby killer.
But Letby’s parents, Susan and John, have said police footage of their daughter being arrested in her pyjamas is an invasion of their privacy.
They also went as far as to say that the chief investigating officer in Letby’s case, Paul Hughes, had a ‘deep hatred’ of the pair.
Letby, from Hereford, murdered seven infants and attempted to kill seven more between June 2015 and June 2016 at the Countess of Chester Hospital – making her the UK’s most prolific child killer.

They told The Times: ‘We’ve always imagined that if something life-changing is going to happen to you the next day, you would somehow have a premonition that something was about to happen.
‘We can honestly say that on the eve of all three of the arrests, we had absolutely no idea they were coming.’
They questioned why Hughes was allowed to show the world ‘what took place in our home that morning’ without being told by Netflix.
‘He seems to have a deep hatred of us even though it was us who first went into Blacon police station in March 2017 to report that [the hospital consultants] Stephen Brearey and Ravi Jayaram were making Lucy a scapegoat,’ they added.
Susan and John said that compared to other programmes about their daughter’s crimes, the Netflix one is on ‘another level’.
‘We will not watch it — it would likely kill us if we did,’ they said. ‘We have, however, stumbled on pictures of her being arrested in her bedroom in our house and her saying goodbye to one of her beloved cats, which are even more distressing. Heaven knows how much more they have to show.
‘All this is taking place in the home where we have lived for 40 years. It is in a small cul-de-sac in a small town where everyone knows everyone. It is a complete invasion of privacy, of which we would have known nothing if Lucy’s barrister had not told us.’
The documentary comes weeks after it was revealed that Letby would not be facing any more charges despite police investigating her alleged involvement in nine other deaths.
Police had passed on a file of evidence relating to the murder of two babies and the attempted murder of seven more.
But the Crown Prosecution Service said the evidence did not meet the standard for any more charges.
And officers have already warned her followers, who are convinced she is innocent, not ‘celebrate’ the news.
Cheshire Constabulary said: ‘This is not the outcome that we had anticipated throughout our investigation; we were confident that we held enough evidence to take to the CPS.
‘We submitted files for charging decisions in relation to nine babies, for consideration of nine offences of attempted murder and two of murder.
‘We believed the evidence submitted met the CPS charging standard. The CPS did not agree, and despite our representations, we must respect the decision that has been made.
‘There will be some who will feel that this is news worth celebrating. We do not share this view and would ask that people respect the privacy and feelings of the families involved.’
Letby is serving 15 whole-life orders for the murders she was found guilty of at Manchester Crown Court.
