Weymouth 2-0 Poole Town – Match Report
Poole Town were defeated 2-0 by Weymouth on Saturday afternoon at The Bob Lucas Stadium.
Joe Lea and Pat Suraci made one change with Shaquille Gwengwe returning to the starting lineup and Ayo missing out through suspension.
The match got underway infront of a crowd of 1,700 people, with the Terras looking the brighter of the two sides from the off-set.
It didn’t take long for the first goal of the game and it was the home side who took the lead on the sixth minute through a well worked goal finished off by Brandon Goodship for his fifth in three games.
Only ten minutes later and Gwengwe was tripped inside the penalty area with the referee pointing to the spot.
It was the Poole number nine who stepped up and is normally so reliable from 12 yards, however this time he was denied by former Dolphin Max Evans and Weymouth held their lead.
Poole continued to push for an equaliser after some nice link up down the right hand side fell to Henry Spalding who sliced his shot wide.
With the half looking to come to a close with the Terras in the commanding position, Dan Carr went close for Poole, but his effort was dealt with by Evans in the Weymouth goal.
The second half got underway in similar fashion with the Dolphins having the majority of the ball but unable to generate any clear cut chances as of yet.
A Charlie Davis free kick was fired into the wall of Weymouth on the 60th minute as the Terras defence remained resolute in their duties.
The biggest chance of the second 45 fell to Carr inside the area, but his low-driven effort was once again denied by Evans.
With five minutes to play at The Bob Lucas Stadium, Weymouth doubled their lead through a superb strike from Barney Stone into the top corner to put the game to bed.
The full time whistle was blown and despite Poole having more of the chances and dominating the majority of possession, it was Weymouth who were clinical, took their chances and walked away with all three points.
