Thomas Frank opens door to late Tottenham loan move as January window nears close
Thomas Frank has offered a candid update on Tottenham’s activity in the closing days of the winter transfer window, addressing whether short-term solutions remain on the table as injuries continue to bite.
The winter transfer window is nearing its end, with Spurs having completed only two signings so far, with Conor Gallagher and Souza making moves to north London.
Still, Tottenham have continued to be linked with several names, including Jean-Philippe Mateta and Raheem Sterling, yet no further moves have materialised.
Thomas Frank admitted in his pre-match press conference on January 30 that Spurs were among those in the running for Antoine Semenyo, the Bournemouth forward who has since moved to Manchester City for £65m.
With just a few days left before the winter window slams shut, the Dane has now shed light on whether Tottenham will be keen on making any loan signings.

Speaking to football.london, the Spurs head coach first explained the balance between short-term needs and long-term planning, stressing that any decision must align with the club’s wider strategy, when asked if any permanent transfers should be expected in the next 48 hours.
Addressing Tottenham’s approach to the market, Frank said: “We are still in the market, so it is not that we are not trying, but it is just that the short term also needs to be with a long-term view. That is a big thing.”
He then went on to clarify the distinction between loan deals and permanent transfers, adding: “A loan, that is different, doing a loan that fits and can help us. That is different compared to buying a player for £30-£40 million, that does he really improve us much more than what we have got now? That is two different things.”

With the Tottenham squad further weakened since the winter window opened, as injuries have continued to rule players out, there is an increased need for additional reinforcements.
Speaking to football.london, Frank addressed whether a loan move could still materialise before the deadline, while acknowledging the limited options currently available.
On the likelihood of a loan addition, the Spurs boss added: “I am definitely not saying ‘no’ or that it cannot happen, but I think that if you look at the market, there is not that much happened so far. When you look across it, there are not that many players available.”
