Deadly Clashes in Pakistan’s Balochistan Kill 10 Security Personnel, 37 Militants
Pakistan says coordinated militant attacks across Balochistan killed 10 security personnel and 37 militants, prompting emergency measures and heightened security operations.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that 10 security personnel and 37 militants were killed during clashes across several cities in Balochistan province.
Police said dozens of insurgents also attacked a prison, freeing more than 30 inmates, while separate assaults targeted police posts and security installations.
Pakistani media reported that telecommunications services were suspended in Quetta, Sibi, and Chaman following simultaneous attacks claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
According to Agence France-Presse, militants carried out nearly a dozen coordinated attacks early Saturday using firearms and hand grenades, including strikes on a high-security prison.
The Balochistan health department declared an emergency in all government hospitals, deploying additional doctors and placing operating rooms on high alert to treat the wounded.
The attacks mark one of the largest separatist operations since the assault on the Jaffar Express train route between Quetta and Peshawar earlier this year.
The BLA has said it launched the second phase of its campaign, dubbed “Operation Hero,” describing it as resistance against the Pakistani state and military structures.
The BLA is banned in Pakistan and designated a terrorist organization by the United States. Islamabad accuses the group of receiving foreign support, allegations repeatedly denied by neighboring countries.
