Rep. Ilhan Omar Issues Biting Response After Trump Implies She Faked Town Hall Attack. See What She Recommended
Ilhan Omar had a very direct response to Donald Trump and a recommendation about how to proceed after the president’s callous reaction to an attack on her that occurred while she hosted a town hall.
The 43-year-old Democrat was sprayed with an unknown substance on Tuesday (January 27) when a man approached her as she was speaking in North Minneapolis, Minn.
In the aftermath of the incident, the president, 79, spoke to ABC News’ Rachel Scott and implied that the member of the House of Representatives “had herself sprayed” in an attempt to fake an attack on her life.
He also said that he “[didn't] think about her.” adding that he had not seen a video of the attack on Omar and “[hoped]” he wouldn’t have to.
She addressed his comments in an interview on Wednesday, hitting back at Trump.

During an appearance on The Source with Kaitlan Collins, Omar was asked about the president’s remarks, especially how they compared to her condemning a July 2024 assassination attempt on Trump.
“Well, the difference between the president and I is that I was raised to be a decent human being, and my faith teaches me to have compassion. And he lacks both of those things,” she said.
Omar continued, referencing the recent fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents, saying that the Trump administration presented both victims as domestic terrorists.
“They are known to be liars. They have constantly told us not to believe in our eyes. Fortunately both of those assassinations were caught on camera. And so was what happened to me last night caught on camera,” she said.
Regarding the claim that the president “[didn't] think about her,” she pointed out that Trump had actually referenced her that same night while at an event in Iowa. The New York Times noted that Trump has frequently attacked the liberal congresswoman.
She said that his implication that he didn’t think of her was him exhibiting “some sort of dementia.”
“Maybe it is time for us.. for the 25th amendment to be invoked because he certainly cannot remember what he said and has down an hour ago,” she said.
The 25th amendment of the United States Constitution gives Congress the ability to determine if an acting president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” It sets up a theoretical plan to replace Trump with the current vice president, JD Vance.
This is not the first time that a member of Congress has called for the 25th amendment to be invoked against Trump.
Omar‘s remarks come shortly after Trump threatened a foreign country with military action.
