Poll Show Majority of Americans Oppose Mail-Order Abortions
Last week, the Knights of Columbus released their annual survey on sanctity of life issues. This poll, which is conducted in conjunction with Marist College, always serves a valuable purpose. Unlike most polls that are conducted by other survey research firms, the Knights of Columbus/Marist poll always asks about specific policy issues that are of particular interest to pro-lifers. These include conscience rights and support for pregnancy resource centers.
Once again, this year’s Knights of Columbus/Marist survey of 1,408 adults showed strong support for many pro-life policy goals. It found that a majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortion, and an impressive 67 percent opposed taxpayer funding for abortions overseas. Additionally, 63 percent support conscience rights for health care professionals. Most impressively, a whopping 84 percent support the work of pro-life pregnancy centers.

The poll’s most important finding was that 59 percent thought that an in-person visit with a health care professional should be required before obtaining a chemical abortion. Placing limits on chemical abortions is a top priority for pro-lifers. Abortion numbers have been increasing, in large part because starting in 2021 the FDA allowed women to obtain chemical abortions without an in-person medical exam. Pro-lifers can use this result to persuade Trump administration officials that limits on chemical abortions are politically popular.
Overall, as pro-lifers return home from this past week’s March for Life, we should take heart. The crowd was large and the attendees were lively. During the course of the weekend, many pro-life leaders made it clear that the Trump administration needs to place a greater priority on sanctity of life issues. Hopefully, this Knights of Columbus/Marist poll will show the Trump administration and Republican elected officials that many pro-life policy goals enjoy strong public support.
