Phalombe Council Staff Shuffled After Minister’s Rebuke
Phalombe District Council has reshuffled several key staff members just days after Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Ben Phiri, slammed the council for poor organisation and weak coordination during his official visit.
The transfers affect four officers.
Leister Sawerengera has been moved to Council Headquarters as Roads Supervisor, while Alick Nthini takes over as Maintenance Supervisor at Reverend John Chilembwe Hospital.
Jackson Manda has been appointed acting Director of Public Works, and Elias Kudambo has also been redeployed.
All postings take effect immediately.
Minister Phiri did not hold back during his visit.
“I cannot feel the vibe that I have been welcomed here; things are not impressing. There is total disorganisation. Directors must coordinate activities properly and identify skilled staff to ensure proper organisation of events,” he said.
He also warned staff against corruption, emphasizing that offenders would face the law, while acknowledging the council’s relative success in revenue mobilisation.
Council officials insist the transfers are routine.
However, observers say the reshuffles are a direct response to the minister’s criticism, aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery.
