Restaurant review: When the weekend began tastefully
Parklane’s La Petite Maison
Limassol’s warmer winter sun sliced right through Nicosia’s moody clouds -a coastal fix for my winter blues. A day out here mends any mood, but my visit to La Petite Maison (LPM) inside the luxurious Parklane Hotel elevated it further. This elegant space fuses traditional French coastal charm with Mediterranean flair: earthy tones, soft lighting, and subtle Provençal accents create an intimate, classy haven. Far from loud or pretentious, its refined atmosphere sets the perfect tone for their new Friday Lunch experience, designed to set the mood for the weekend ahead, blending quality with generous portions in true fine-dining mastery.
Arriving early, I settled at the bar, where expert staff, visibly passionate, welcomed me with impeccable service. They eagerly mixed cocktails and mocktails, fielding questions with ease. I opted for the striking black lemonade, infused with edible charcoal. It was refreshing and intriguing against Limassol’s humid haze. Their signature Tomatini, a fan favorite, drew repeat orders from familiar guests, with a vibrant allure which was impossible to resist.
Seated promptly, we dove into an endless parade of dishes: five entrées, five mains, and three desserts, paired seamlessly with three mocktails (with alcoholic versions available upon request). Endless fluffy sourdough arrived throughout, ideal for sopping up soulful sauces. All ingredients shone with seasonal freshness.
The entrées of course dazzled. Escargots de Bourgogne -my skeptical first try- melted into garlic butter and parsley, transforming into a silky delight on sourdough. Crevettes Tièdes à l’huile d’olive brought tender prawns in fragrant oil and lemon juice while the Salade de Chou-fleur offered sweet-tangy crunch. From the chef’s selection, Salade de Haricots Verts au Foie Gras added luxurious depth, while Carpaccio de Loup de Mer -thin-sliced seabass- dissolved on the tongue and paired like dreams with the bread.
The mains stole the show with Rigatoni à la Truffe Noire featured al dente pasta in creamy black truffle sauce, spiced with caramelised onions. The first crowd-pleaser. Beautifully presented Cotolettes d’agneau Vivienne impressed with marinated lamb cutlets falling off the bone, topped with olive-aubergine caviar and pine nuts. Then came the Saumon à la Toscane presenting impeccably baked salmon, crowned with a vibrant olive-caper-tomato relish that infused each bite with refined Mediterranean zest. At the same time, Chili-ginger Broccoli and creamy Gratin Dauphinois brought cozy warmth, balancing all those bold flavors perfectly. Filling, flavourful homey bliss!
Desserts capped the magic: Crème Brûlée à la Vanille with its flawless caramel crust and fresh vanilla (I shamelessly claimed seconds), Tarte Fine aux Pommes alongside velvety vanilla ice cream served on a flaky pastry and a molten Mousee au Chocolat Chaud that vanished in seconds.
It is safe to say that everyone departed stuffed, blissful, and weekend ready as LPM’s Friday Lunch had ignited the festivities by 3pm. Parklane and LPM deliver an incredible masterclass every Friday: elegant, abundant and unforgettable.
