Real Madrid have already had conversations to check on the potential availability of Unai Emery, with the Aston Villa boss ‘best positioned’ to take the job at the Bernabeu if a change is made in the summer.
Los Blancos parted ways with Xabi Alonso earlier this month, just seven months after appointing the Spaniard as the boss.
Alonso, who led a historic league title win for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen two years ago, rejected moving to Premier League giants Liverpool, before the Reds appointed Arne Slot.
Staying on for a further year at Leverkusen led Richard Keys to claim Alonso had ‘bottled it’.
Alonso chose to move to Real Madrid but could not galvanise the high profile players and was ultimately replaced by Alvaro Arbeola.
Arbeola, who had previously coached Real Madrid’s youth teams, does not have a set date on his contract length, leading to speculation about his position as the boss.
Now, according to Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, if the European giants were to make a change in the dugout in the summer, Aston Villa boss Emery would be the ‘best positioned’.
Real Madrid have even already ‘had conversations in recent days’ to check on whether Emery would be available.
Emery signed a five-year contract extension with the Villans in May 2024.
His arrival at Villa Park has resulted in the club’s best seasons in recent history, as he had led them to European qualification on three different occasions.
Aston Villa’s remarkable improvement under Emery is evident by their third place in the Premier League table this season, just four points behind leaders Arsenal, playing their part in a three-horse title race.
The 54-year old has transformed Aston Villa to one of the best teams in the Premier League, but one former player believes winning a trophy could yet take them to another level.
Emery has experience managing top teams in Europe, having taken charge of French side Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
Whether Emery’s head turns at the prospect of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world, remains to be seen, but losing him would be a massive blow for Aston Villa.
