Police: Alameda woman was so busy beating her blind teen daughter, she didn’t notice her 3-year-old run into traffic
ALAMEDA — Police here say that a local mother was so busy assaulting her blind daughter and ripping out her hair, she didn’t notice her other daughter, a 3-year-old, wandering into a busy street, where the young child was nearly struck by an automobile.
Now the mother, a 32-year-old Alameda woman, is facing criminal charges. On Monday, prosecutors charged her with a felony count of child abuse for allegedly ripping out the teenager’s hair, and a misdemeanor count of child endangerment for allegedly neglecting the 3-year-old’s safety. The woman was arrested at a hospital in San Leandro after the Jan. 24 incident, authorities said.
Authorities said in court filings that the incident began after an argument between the woman and her teenage daughter, who is legally blind, but the nature of the argument wasn’t specified.
The woman hasn’t yet appeared in court and remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. The jail records don’t list her bail amount.
