Tottenham player ratings vs Eintracht Frankfurt as 8/10 trio seal qualification
The full-time whistle has blown in the Champions League match between Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt, and it’s time for our player ratings.
Tottenham Hotspur got the job done tonight, securing their spot in the round of 16 of the Champions League thanks to their 2-0 win over Frankfurt, with goals from Solanke and Muani proving to be enough.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Guglielmo Vicario – Frankfurt’s first half was rather quiet as they barely tested Vicario in the Tottenham goal. In the second half, the German outfit did have a sniff, but it was a tame effort that the Italian was able to gather easily. 6.
Djed Spence – The Englishman was not as adventurous as Udogie was in this game, as he often had to pick his moment to join the attack in both halves. The times he did get forward, he did put in a few dangerous balls across goal, although no Spurs attacker got to the end of them. 7.
Cristian Romero – The Tottenham captain picked up from where he left off in the first half with his offensive threat. He did create one of Spurs’ better chances in the opening forty from a set play, and he did a similar thing in the second half, but this time he got his assist after his header across goal found Muani, who bundled it in. 8.
Kevin Danso – The Austrian once again was part of a backline that kept a clean sheet as Spurs were once again solid defensively, with Danso very much at the heart of it. However, just like in the first half, Danso also found himself in advanced positions and came close to assisting Muani for a second, but the Frenchman could not keep his header on target. 7.
Destiny Udogie – The Tottenham full-back had a very busy night in Germany as he was bombing up and down that left flank, as he was often tasked with holding the width, given the absence of a natural wide forward on the left. He stuck to his assignment brilliantly in both halves, as he was always an option on that flank and was not shy to put crosses into the box. In the first half, he could have grabbed a goal after Muani’s cross found its way to him, but he failed to react. 8.
Archie Gray – A solid performance from the young midfielder who had a near-flawless outing in both halves. In the first half, he was tidy with the ball, keeping things ticking and retaining possession. In the second half, it was more of the same for the teenager. He was also solid defensively as he was offering much-needed cover for Udogie when he went forward. 7.5.
Joao Palhinha – His best involvement in attack came in the first half after Romero’s header to the back post found his head, but Santos saved. He did, however, help out defensively, often covering the wide areas when Spence went to join in the attack. 7.
Pape Matar Sarr – The midfielder very often found himself on the edge of the box in this game in both halves. In the first half, he was not afraid to let fly, but his effort then was high. In the second half, he kept popping up in that area, and he did force a save at about the hour mark following an Odobert pass. 7.
Xavi Simons – The Dutchman is finding a rhythm, and the performance from today has been consistent with what we have been seeing in the last two outings. In the first half, his goal was disallowed due to a foul by Udogie. He did have another chance following an error from Santos, but he could not convert. In the second half, it was more of the same from Simons, who was dictating play with his passing and flicks. His crossing into the box was also good as he was the one who found Romero, leading to the goal. 8.
Randal Kolo Muani – The centre forward got his goal after flicking the ball into the net from Romero’s header across the goal following a free kick, capping off a complete display from the striker, who was a willing runner in the first half and was involved in Spurs’ attack with his link-up play. He could have made it two after meeting Danso’s cross, but he headed high. 7.5.
Wilson Odobert – The winger was lively throughout this game. In the first half, he came closest for Spurs after his long-range effort struck the upright. In the second half, he remained a threat, with his direct running and his willingness to take on his runner. 7.
Thomas Frank – The Dane will be scratching his head as to how his side cannot translate their European form into the Premier League. As tonight’s performance was a top and complete one, with Tottenham looking dangerous in attack while remaining compact at the back. But can he build on this? It remains to be seen, but his side did get the job done, getting a victory and a top-eight place. 8.
Substitutes:
Dominic Solanke – The English forward came in for Wilson Odobert and did not hesitate to make two in his last two Champions League outings after latching on to a Dahoud mistake before slotting into the bottom corner from inside the box. 7.
Dane Scarlett – Replaced Kolo Muani in the final five minutes of the game. N/A.
Jun’Ai Byfield – The youngster came on for Destiny Udogie in the closing stages. N/A.
