Trump warns Iran “time is running out” for talks, threatens “far worse” attack
US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that time is running out for nuclear negotiations, threatening a far worse military attack if Tehran refuses.
US President Donald Trump has called on Iran to immediately return to negotiations on its nuclear program, warning the next American strike would be “far worse” if Tehran refuses.
Reuters reported Wednesday that Iran responded by stating it would retaliate in an unprecedented manner to any attack on the country.
The escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran follow Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action during his first presidency and subsequent reimposition of maximum pressure sanctions. The nuclear agreement, negotiated under the Obama administration, had limited Iran’s uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief, but collapsed after the US exit and Iranian non-compliance.
Trump emphasized Iran must accept “a fair deal without nuclear weapons,” adding that “time is running out” for diplomatic resolution of the nuclear standoff.
Iran’s nuclear program has significantly advanced since the collapse of the 2015 agreement, with international inspectors reporting Tehran has accumulated substantial quantities of highly enriched uranium. While Iran maintains its program is peaceful, Western powers and regional allies remain concerned about potential weapons development, creating ongoing tensions despite periodic diplomatic overtures from both sides.
The president stated his previous June warning to Iran was accompanied by a military strike, but cautioned “the next attack will be much worse, don’t let it happen again.”
A White House official previously told Reuters that Washington is ready to engage if Iran initiates contact for diplomatic negotiations.
Iranian state media quoted Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denying any contact with US special envoys or requests for negotiations at this time.
