JD Vance ripped as 'shameless sociopath' for 'misleading' attack on Minneapolis mayor
Vice President JD Vance faced fierce blowback for whining about alleged mistreatment of federal immigration agents after the shooting deaths of two citizen observers in Minnesota.
Life imitated The Onion's satirical art – 'JD Vance Places Candle Outside Hooters Where ICE Agents Were Heckled' – when the vice president claimed that heavily armed agents he has claimed enjoy absolute immunity felt unsafe around local law enforcement in the cities where they're violently cracking down on immigrants and protesters.
"How about federal law enforcement," Vance posted, in response to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. "Should they feel safe calling 911? Right now, they don't, because you've told your police officers not to help them."
The city's Democratic mayor had pushed back on a Wednesday morning threat from President Donald Trump warning that he was "playing with fire" by refusing to spend local resources enforcing federal laws.
"The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws," Frey said. "I want them preventing homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador. It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in NYC. Everyone should feel safe calling 911."
The Yale Law-educated Vance was served a series of reminders that the federal government cannot compel state or local government to enforce federal laws.
"This is just misleading," responded MS NOW legal analyst Joyce White Vance, a former U.S. attorney. "There is a big difference between saying state resources can’t be used to enforce fed’l civil immigration policy & local cops refusing to assist fed’l partners in an emergency. Deliberately conflating the two is disingenuous."
"JD Vance is lying, again," added Bluesky user Mena Burke. "There’s been no attacks in Feds in Mn, unless you include yelling that they’re « f------ idiots » because they’re shooting things outside preschools."
"Hey how are the imaginary federal agents who had their lunch interrupted by imaginary protesters doing? Better than Alex Pretti?" asked podcaster Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for Barack Obama.
"You are the most shameless sociopath in our country's entire history - even worse than Trump," seethed the LibDunk account. "You lie on this platform 24/7 - defame Americans who are murdered by your secret police force and attempt to smear your political opposition so that your brain dead base still thinks you're a 'big tough guy' - f------ pathetic."
"There hasn’t been even one violent attack on a federal agent in Minnesota. Quite literally. None," pointed out Bluesky user Grudgie the Whale. "They’re also armed to the teeth. Why would they call 911? Over a slick sidewalk?"
"People don’t call 911 when they’re scared the police will deport them. That’s the point," noted X user Tom Anti-Fascist, Pro-Human. "Safety drops when you turn cops into immigration agents."
"911 hello i would like to raid a home without a warrant please assist me," joked Bluesky user socrates stepson.
"Why would they call 911? 911 is for emergencies," added X user Andrew Powers. "They are according to you law enforcement, so they are the emergency responding. They wouldn't call 911. If anything they would just radio on local channels for backup. But ice currently as the largest budget out of any law enforcement country in America including the military. When the fuck is a federal agent going to call 911 and cry for help on a pre-planned and multi jurisdictional organized raid or enforcement operation?"
