  • Amazon is cutting 16,000 corporate jobs
  • An internal FAQ viewed by Business Insider includes details for affected employees.
  • This is the second big layoff by Amazon since October.

Amazon is cutting 16,000 corporate roles, and an internal FAQ viewed by Business Insider spells out the details for affected employees.

This round of layoffs is the second mass job cut since October, when Amazon shed 14,000 roles. The moves are part of a broad effort by the company to operate more efficiently amid rapid advances in AI. Amazon didn't respond to requests for further comments on the job cuts.

Employees who received a layoff notification will receive full pay and benefits for 90 days plus an additional severance package, and are no longer expected to perform any work, according to the document.

Amazon's public announcement stated that the company is offering most US-based employees 90 days to search for a new role internally. The FAQ states affected employees are "welcome to apply for available roles through the internal process" during the 90-day notification period.

The FAQ is below. Business Insider removed Amazon login guidance from this FAQ to avoid disclosing security-related details.

A: You may request and take approved leaves of absence during the notification period. However, leaves of absence will end as of your separation date.

Q: What is the severance package?

A: If your role is eliminated, the formal announcement paperwork you receive within the next 24 hours will have the details of how your severance package is calculated. Generally, you will receive: Your full pay and benefits during the transition period, and you will be offered a severance package. We will send this to your personal email address on file no less than ten days after your separation date.

Q: When will my benefits coverage end?

A: Medical, vision, dental and other benefits will generally continue through the last day of the month in which your employment ends, unless you are a part-time or seasonal employee, in which case your benefits will end in accordance with the applicable policy. You may also be eligible for transitional benefits coverage as outlined in your severance documentation. For specific questions about your benefit end dates and transitional coverage, please contact My HR (log into A to Z via the mobile app or browser > Go to 'Quick Links' section and click on 'MyHR').
