Speaker Mike Johnson: God Gives Us a Right to Life
House Speaker Mike Johnson rallied pro-life advocates at the annual March for Life last week, declaring that the right to life is an unalienable gift from God and highlighting recent legislative victories as a turning point in protecting the unborn.
Speaking to a massive crowd gathered on the National Mall amid chilly weather, Johnson invoked the Declaration of Independence to underscore the movement’s core belief.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all of us are created equal; that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights; and that the first among them is the right to life,” Johnson said in his address.

The Louisiana Republican, who has long championed pro-life causes, shared his personal testimony to illustrate the stakes involved.
“I was product of an unplanned teen pregnancy exactly one year before Roe in January of 1972,” Johnson told the crowd. “And a lot people try to convince my very young parents that they should just take care of that problem. But I am eternally grateful they allowed me the chance at life.”
Johnson expressed profound gratitude that his parents “understood those principles,” referring to the foundational American ideals of equality and the sanctity of life.
The speaker praised the enthusiasm of the participants, noting the significance of their presence despite the cold.
“What an encouragement it is to see millions of Americans today standing together for the sanctity of human life,” he said. “Thank you all for coming out, braving the cold. It’s worth it.”
Johnson highlighted policy achievements under the current Republican-led government, marking a shift since the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
“For the first time since Roe v. Wade was reversed, we have the White House and Senate all working together to deliver meaningful and historic pro-life victories,” he said.
He pointed to the Working Families Tax Cuts as a key example, describing it as “the most Pro Life and Pro Family legislation that has been signed into law in decades.”
Johnson encouraged the crowd to continue their efforts, emphasizing individual impact.
“We all have a reason that we believe so strongly in this principle,” he said. “Every single one of you has the power to change hearts and minds, ultimately, to save lives.”
He concluded with a call to action: “Save Lives Together. God bless. May God Bless United States.”
