Afghanistan competes in Group 4 alongside Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Iran. The team will face Malaysia on Friday and Iran on Sunday in their remaining group stage matches.
The Afghanistan Football Federation said the national futsal squad arrived in Indonesia on Sunday morning after completing a training camp in Thailand to prepare for the tournament.
The 2026 Asian Futsal Cup features 16 teams competing from January 28 to February 3 in Indonesia.
Afghanistan has been developing its futsal program over the past decade, with the sport gaining popularity domestically due to its lower infrastructure requirements compared to traditional football.
The victory provides Afghanistan with three crucial points as they aim to advance from a challenging group that includes Iran, one of Asia’s traditional futsal powerhouses.
This marks a significant result for Afghanistan football as the team continues to build its competitive profile in regional futsal competitions.
