Andy Dick Reveals Details of Near-Fatal Overdose and His Road to Recovery
Andy Dick broke his silence following the near-fatal drug overdose that left him clinging to life. The comedian spoke to Page Six on Tuesday, Jan. 27, shortly after being released from a treatment center in Palm Springs, CA.
Andy Dick Claims He 'Legit Died' During Overdose
Dick, 60, admitted that he's been to rehab "many, many, many, many, many times" in the past, but added that this trip "feels different." "I think, mostly, because I actually legit died, and I can’t believe I came back to life,” he claimed. “It looks bad on [my family and friends] when I f–k up. They get s–t on as well. But I’m my own worst enemy, as they say."
The Ben Stiller Show alum took the opportunity to clear up a misconception regarding the role of his documentarians, Adam Carbone and Alexander “Billy John Oh” Bailey, in the overdose. While some erroneously speculated that they played a part in the overdose, he told the outlet that they actually saved his life. “They weren’t there giving me drugs, which people think. No, I escaped from them to go be ‘Bad Andy.’ And I got away from them, but they followed me, but it was too late. I had ran [sic] into a group of people and just did drugs as quickly as I could and promptly died,” Dick explained.
Dick Overdosed After Escaping from Film Crew
The scary incident occurred on Dec. 9, 2025, while Dick was being filmed by Carbone and Bailey on Hollywood Boulevard. Dick previously told Page Six that he split off from the crew and met a man who offered him crack. “There was a guy that was my age on the sidewalk," the comedian explained, "and I felt for him. He had kids, and he was depressed, and he was on the sidewalk,” Dick said. “And then he whipped out—sorry, but crack—and I’m like, you know what? I might need a little bit of that.”
Dick subsequently suffered an overdose, with the tragic scene was captured on video by witnesses. In the footage, Bailey can be seen administering a dose of Narcan. Speaking to Page Six after his release from the treatment center, Dick claimed it took four doses of Narcan to revive him. “This is not funny, and I don’t remember this, but they say I came back to life, sat up, and the first thing outta my mouth was, ‘Where’s the vodka?'” he said. “I don’t remember. I was still out of it...just coming back from death and Narcan’d up. I was out of my mind.”
'Thank God' I Went to Rehab, Dick Says Now
Paramedics attended to Dick at the scene and advised him to go to the hospital, but the actor “wanted to go to the bar.” He admitted that, despite his history of heavy drug use, alcohol is his "kryptonite." "I was telling somebody just today, I was saying, ‘I would be lying if I said I’m not thinking about drinking now, but I don’t want it," he added. "I don’t want it to be out of my life forever, but I think maybe it has to be out of my life forever.'”
Currently at a sober living facility following his release, Dick has nothing but praise for his rehab experience. “Thank God I went to that place. I loved it. I met some great people,” he said.
