Margot Robbie's Steamy Heist Movie That Conquered Netflix Is Finally Back
Netflix appears to understand the concept of not trying to fix what isn't broken. The streaming giant frequently cycles movies on and off the platform due to licensing agreements, and one specific film is slated to return after a stellar stretch less than two years ago. It also helps that the movie stars Margot Robbie alongside Will Smith, as the 2015 release Focus is making its Netflix return, and the good news is that fans, or anyone who hasn't seen the steamy heist thriller, won't have to wait long for the comeback to become official. Along with a lengthy list of popular movies and television shows, Netflix is slated to kick off February 2026 with several additions.
The Seductive Chemistry: Why 'Focus' Became a Streaming Juggernaut
While Focus, featuring Smith as a con artist named Nicky, made waves on streaming platforms, it also found success in theaters. Robbie, in one of her first movies following the immense success of The Wolf of Wall Street, starred as Jess, who goes from attempting to con Nicky to becoming a member of his team and later, an intense love interest.
From a box office standpoint, Focus was successful. However, its staying power showed in its ability to land the No. 1 spot on Netflix in November 2024, nearly 10 years after its theatrical release, as Decider previously highlighted.
Although it certainly didn't hurt that the worldwide hit Barbie, starring Robbie, came out less than a year and a half earlier, it's hard to argue that it was the sole reason for Focus keeping its foot on the streaming gas pedal. And with another run on Netflix just around the corner, it'll be interesting to see if the crime thriller can once again climb the streaming charts. Fortunately, the timing couldn't be much better for its chances at success.
Here's a look at the box office numbers for Focus, courtesy of Box Office Mojo:
- Estimated production budget for Focus: $50.1 to $65 million
- Opening box office number: $18,685,137
- Domestic box office total: $53,862,963
- International box office total: $105,300,000
- Worldwide: $159,162,963
When Can You Watch 'Focus' on Netflix Again? Return Date Details
Whether you spent the recent weekend battling off a snowstorm, are preparing for the chances of more snow on the horizon, or were fortunate enough to avoid it altogether, Focus could be making its Netflix return at an ideal time for some. As What's on Netflix detailed, Robbie and Smith's heist movie is slated for another stint on the streaming platform beginning Sunday, February 1.
Focus is joined by several other popular movies, both new and old, including another beloved choice starring Smith, Independence Day. A few of the other notable choices that Netflix customers will have available beginning on February 1st include Crazy, Stupid, Love, How to Train Your Dragon (the first and second films), Mrs. Doubtfire, the first three Night at the Museum movies, You've Got Mail and Zero Dark Thirty.
As for Focus, while the on-screen chemistry between Robbie and Smith earned high marks, the movie itself was met with mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Along with just a 55 percent score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences checked in even lower, giving Focus a 53 percent score.
But even with a Metacritic score of 56, audiences were apparently ready and willing to give Focus another chance. With Robbie's highly anticipated movie Wuthering Heights set to hit theaters on February 13, it'll be worth monitoring whether that helps give Focus another bump out of the gate on Netflix.
