Norway Pledges $990,000 Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan, UN Says
The UN’s humanitarian office reports Norway has donated $990,000 to Afghanistan, strengthening emergency response efforts amid ongoing humanitarian challenges across the country.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Tuesday, January 27, that Norway contributed $990,000 to Afghanistan’s Special Trust Fund.
OCHA stated, “Your continued support enables frontline partners to respond rapidly and effectively to sudden emergencies, saving lives and addressing urgent humanitarian needs.”
Earlier, Sweden and Italy also provided financial assistance to Afghanistan, highlighting ongoing international commitment to aid a country facing widespread poverty, displacement, and conflict.
According to OCHA, nearly 22 million people in Afghanistan will rely on humanitarian aid in 2026, underscoring the scale of ongoing crises across the nation.
OCHA has requested $1.71 billion to address humanitarian needs in Afghanistan, covering food, healthcare, shelter, and emergency relief for vulnerable populations.
The contribution from Norway is expected to help strengthen local capacity, improve coordination, and ensure timely delivery of aid in areas with urgent needs.
Humanitarian agencies stress that sustained international funding is critical to support Afghanistan’s most vulnerable populations and to prevent worsening crises across the country.
