She Changed Her Mind in the Middle of the Abortion and Saved Her Baby
Sarah Hurm, a mother of four, shared her powerful testimony at the March for Life rally on Friday, describing how she reversed a chemical abortion after taking the first pill and regretting her decision, ultimately giving birth to a healthy son.
Hurm, who was 26 at the time and expecting her fourth child, felt pressured to end the pregnancy. The father told her she wasn’t ready, saying, “26 years old, four kids, three different dads,” and that it “didn’t look good.”
“His harsh, judgmental words made me feel trapped and alone,” Hurm said during her testimony.

She scheduled a chemical abortion at a clinic where staff told her counseling was not available and that her only option was to proceed. During an ultrasound, clinic workers detected a strong fetal heartbeat and remarked, “You are lucky the heartbeat bill hadn’t passed.”
“These words should remind us all that our work in the pro-life movement has real impact,” she said.
After taking the first abortion pill, Hurm immediately regretted her decision.
She searched for alternatives and connected with a hotline for abortion pill reversal. A doctor provided treatment to counteract the effects of the pill.
Hurm later gave birth to her son in January 2019.
“He continues to thrive,” she said. “I am here to tell you that the abortion pill reversal can work. My life and the life of my son is living proof today.”
Addressing thousands of pro-life advocates in the nation’s capital, Hurm declared she is “living proof that life is a gift.”
She recounted finding support from advocates outside the abortion clinic where she felt treated like a “transaction.”
“I realized I wasn’t alone. I wasn’t without options,” Hurm said. “I could fight for my child’s life. And so I did.”
She urged attendees to engage in practical acts of support for women in crisis pregnancies.
“Saving a life can be as simple as answering a phone call, driving a friend to an ultrasound, or helping her pick out a car seat,” she said. “Small sacrifices can become enormous victories that can support moms like me and children like mine. You have that power. Be that person who connects a woman to hope. Be the reason she knows she’s not alone.”
Hurm also criticized restrictions in some states on abortion pill reversal and highlighted concerns about increasing use of abortion pills at home without direct medical supervision. Her appearance came as the March for Life prepared for its annual walk through Washington, emphasizing themes of hope, accompaniment and the value of every life.
