C Steinweg Bridge Logistics, AEJ donates tree seedlings to Tsabango CDSS

About 600 tree seedlings planted around Tsabango Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Lilongwe, is expected to transform the vicinity with natural shade for students and improve ecosystem.
C Steinweg Bridge Logistics Company in partnership with the Association of Environmental Journalists (AEJ), made the donation on Saturday as one way of fulfilling pillars of Malawi’s Green Vision 2063.
Headmaster Hudson Kelvin Gareta welcomed the development, saying it will improve the ecosystem at the institution.
“As school, we will keep the environment green. We have an active World Life Club which will monitor the watering, and protect the saplings from pests, and enforce accountability if care falters.” said Gareta
In his remarks, Environmental Health and Safety Manager at C Steinweg Bridge Logistics Company, Wamaka Neba explained that the decision to present the trees came after Malawi adopted Vision 2063 in 2021, aiming for middle-income status with environmental sustainability as a core enabler.
He added that the firm has set an ambitious target of planting about 100,000 trees, a figure meant to counter the massive loss of forest cover—roughly 260 kilo hectares in the past 25 years, equivalent to a million fields.
“If an agro-based nation like ours loses windbreaks and shade, we can’t meet the 2063 goals,” Neba warned.
In his remarks, Owen Nyaka, a representative of AEJ, asked the school authorities to take good care of the trees to ensure their survival and suggested imposing penalties if the students fail to protect them.
He commended C Steinweg Bridge Logistics Company for the partnership with AEJ, saying they will continue working together to restore the environment.
For the community, the 600 seedlings symbolize hope—a living reminder that collective action, from classrooms to boardrooms, can begin to reverse decades of deforestation and steer Malawi toward a greener, more resilient future.
