Tottenham receive huge boost to hopes of Champions League top eight finish
Tottenham Hotspur have just been handed a huge boost ahead of their final Champions League league phase clash against Eintracht Frankfurt following the events of Wednesday evening.
Tottenham maintained their 100 per cent home record in the Champions League this season by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Tuesday.
The result has ensured that Spurs have booked their place in the knockoutstages of the Champions League, with the Lilywhites guaranteed to finish in the top 24.
However, they likely need to win their final league phase fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt to ensure a top-eight finish, which brings direct passage to the round of 16 stage of the competition.
Why Eintracht Frankfurt may field a weaker team against Tottenham
Frankfurt lost 3-2 away at Qarabag on Wednesday, which leaves them 33rd in the table out of the 36 teams competing in this year’s Champions League.
The result means that the Bundesliga club can no longer finish in the top 24 and qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.

The game against Tottenham next week is thus a dead rubber for Frankfurt, who have a big game against Bayer Leverkusen just three days later.
That means that there is a big chance that the German side will rotate their team against Spurs and rest key players.
Would a draw be enough for Spurs to finish in the top eight?
A draw at Frankfurt may be enough for Thomas Frank’s side to secure a place in the top eight, but they will need other results to go their way.
If Tottenham play out a draw at the Deutsche Bank Park, they will finish the league phase with 15 points.
For them to finish in the top eight, they will then need no more than three teams out of PSG, Newcastle, Chelsea, Barcelona, Sporting Lisbon, Man City, Atletico Madrid and Atalanta to pick up wins next week.
If four or more of those teams win their final league phase fixture, then a point in Germany will not be enough for the Lilywhites to seal direct passage to the round of 16.
