Spruce Kings Win Fourth Straight
Tai Ushio scored the eventual Game Winner on the power play just 1:22 into the 3rd period as Colin Reay made 40 saves in a 4-3 victory on Saturday night over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on the road.
River Arnason got the call in the starting lineup and deflected a Mason Loewen shot home to make it 1-0 just 48 seconds in. Carter Hesselgrave earned the second assist digging the puck loose on the wall.
There would be no more scoring in the opening frame, and Jackson Lackas tied the game at 3:01 of the second.
Just 1:37 later, Ryan Wachtel poked a puck free to Dominic Szczygiel who sent it back to Wachtel as he walked in on the right wing and went bar down before showing off his dance moves to the crowd on the far side.
Carter Hesselgrave stayed hot with his 14th of the season at 13:04 on the power play, as he deposited the loose puck after Ozbej Rep set up Tai Ushio for a one-timer on goal.
Late in the frame, Wyatt Blace took a breakaway pass from Luc Schaefer and beat Reay to make a one-goal game heading into the intermission.
Prince George got their third power play of the night early in the third period, and Ozbej Rep found Marcus Lougheed on the left wing. Lougheed fired a puck across the front of the crease and Ushio was in the perfect spot to tap in his 19th of the season.
Brandon Gill brought the Bulldogs within a goal at 19:26, but a goaltending interference penalty ended their chances with 11 seconds left.
The Spruce Kings have won four straight games for the second time this season, after winning five straight from November 28th to December 12th.
Next action for Prince George is Friday January 30th at 7:00 pm against the Surrey Eagles.
