Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Burnley – 6/10 for striker who was shown up by his defenders

The full-time whistle has blown in the Premier League match between Tottenham and Burnley, and it’s time for our player ratings.

Tottenham Hotspur salvaged a 2-2 draw against Burnley thanks to goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, as Frank’s men had to dig deep and come from behind after going down in the second half.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Guglielmo Vicario The Italian was left rooted to the spot for Burnley’s first in the first half, while he was once again beaten by Lyle Forster in the second half despite saving his initial effort. 5.

Pedro Porro The full-back had a disappointing first half as he switched off at the back post, allowing Axel Tuanzebe to grab an equaliser for Burnley. He was taken off at the break, with Udogie coming on and Spence moving to the right. 5.

Cristian Romero The dynamics of the game changed from the first half, with Tottenham spending less time building from the back and playing more directly. Romero’s role shifted as he spent less time on the ball and was required to make more recovery tackles. For Burnley’s second, the centre-back was pulled out of position after a disguised run from the forward, allowing more space for Parker’s men to attack. The Argentine made amends by grabbing the equaliser for Spurs to make it 2-2. 7.

Kevin Danso Continued to step into midfield when needed, just as he did in the first half. However, this time his passing was not as clean, and he gave the ball away on several occasions 5.5.

Micky van de Ven The Dutchman grabbed Spurs’ opener following a corner in the first half, where he was also very front-footed, looking to overlap Spence. However, the introduction of Odobert saw fewer of those forward forays. He stuck to his defensive duties and made an excellent sliding tackle to deny Broja from testing Vicario. 7.

Djed SpenceThe full-back was excellent on both the left and right for Tottenham. In the first forty-five minutes, he was effectively the winger, looking to take on Walker and holding the width. In the second half, he switched to the right and offered support to Odobert on that side. He also let fly from outside the box, a shot that kept Dubravka honest. 8.

Conor Gallagher Deployed in the pivot role and solid throughout, making a few crucial interceptions in the first half, where he also went close to a first Spurs goal. In the second half, his influence was reduced as Burnley picked Tottenham off for their second goal. 5.

Yves Bissouma The Malian international had a decent first half, sticking to his task, making a few interceptions and looking to play in the forward players. In the second half, Burnley had more sustained possession and won far more second balls in the middle of the pitch. More aggression was needed from the midfielder. 5.

Wilson Odobert Was a bright spark for Tottenham in attack in the first half, managing to get several shots on target, but Dubravka was equal to the test each time. In the second half, he picked up where he left off with more direct running on the left flank, which led to the assist for Romero’s equaliser. 5.

Dominic Solanke After a quiet first forty-five minutes, the forward had his first real chance in the opening moments of the second half when he met Simons’ cross inside the box, but he headed straight at Dubravka, who made a fine save. 6.

Xavi SimonsThe Dutchman picked up from where he left off in the first half, operating as a classic number ten and roaming across the pitch. As in the opening forty-five minutes, most of his influence came from the left, and he went close to grabbing an assist in the second half when his cross from inside the box was not converted by Solanke. He came close later in the game following a cutback, but his effort cannoed off the bar. 6.

Thomas Frank – His blushes were spared late on thanks to Romero’s equaliser, but question marks remain over his selection decisions and his late substitutions today. 4.

Substitutes

Destiny Udogie – Came on for Pedro Porro at the break and took Spence’s spot in the left wing position. He was not as influential as his counterpart and attempted to make a block for Burnley’s second, but the ball ricocheted off him and went in. 4.

Archie Gray – Replaced Bissouma in the middle of the park as Frank sought a reaction after going behind. N/A.

Mathys Tel – Frank eventually turned to a more natural attacking option, with Tel coming on for Danso and Spurs reverting to a more conventional back four. The Frenchman almost bailed the Dane out as he came very close to making it 2-2, but Dubravka’s fingertips were the difference. N/A.

Dane Scarlett – The young forward came on for Conor Gallagher as Frank looked to get more bodies into attack. N/A.
