Mike McDaniel Reportedly Cancels Interview For Bills Head Coach
Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was expected to interview with the Buffalo Bills for their vacant head coaching position, but that will no longer happen.
Miami fired McDaniel this offseason, and he’s agreed to become the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator if he doesn’t land a head coaching job. McDaniel was expected to interview with the Bills on Friday, but NFL insider Dianni Russini of The Athletic reported that he canceled the interview.
“Mike McDaniel canceled a planned interview for the Buffalo Bills head-coaching job Friday, according to a team source, and is still expected to become the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator if he is not hired for any of the league’s five remaining head-coaching vacancies,” Russini wrote. …
“McDaniel, 42, interviewed for several head-coaching openings in this cycle and planned to meet with the Bills in Florida on Friday before canceling, according to a team source.”
The Bills brass flew down to Florida and met with Philip Rivers. Buffalo will also meet with Washington Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver on Saturday, before talking to Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski on Sunday.
Why McDaniel decided to cancel his head coaching interview with the Bills is uncertain. But, with McDaniel out of the picture, Buffalo continues to cast a wide net in its search for their next head coach.
The Bills have already interviewed offensive coordinator Joe Brady and former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
Buffalo fired Sean McDermott after its overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round.
