EU allocates €20 million for child nutrition programs in Afghanistan
The European Union has pledged €20 million to support child nutrition in Afghanistan schools, aiming to improve health, education, and learning environments.
The EU Delegation in Afghanistan announced on Saturday, January 24, that the funds are designated specifically for school-based nutrition programs for children.
In addition, the EU has committed €25 million through UNICEF’s Child Support Fund to ensure schools remain safe and supportive learning environments.
The funding will also support teachers, improve water sanitation services, and strengthen educational programs, addressing both health and learning needs across Afghanistan’s schools.
Another €6 million has been allocated to the Children’s Protection organization to safeguard vulnerable children and enhance community support initiatives.
The EU, in cooperation with UNESCO and through a €4.7 million budget, will provide literacy and technical-vocational training to 7,500 adolescents and adults across five provinces.
These investments underscore the EU’s commitment to high-quality education and child welfare, reinforcing the stability and development of Afghanistan’s educational sector.
Girls in Afghanistan face restrictions on secondary and higher education, limiting learning opportunities and future career prospects.
Women also encounter severe employment barriers, with many workplaces inaccessible, reducing economic participation and professional advancement.
