UN political chief Rosemary DiCarlo arrives in Kabul for talks
According to sources, Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, arrived in Kabul on Saturday, January 24.
Sources said DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, is expected to hold meetings with Taliban officials during her visit.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has not yet issued an official statement confirming the visit or outlining its agenda.
Afghanistan remains diplomatically isolated following the 2021 takeover, with international engagement largely focused on humanitarian access, human rights, and political dialogue.
The UN-led Doha process has served as a key platform for discussions between the Taliban and the international community on sanctions, governance, and economic conditions.
Earlier, foreign ministry in Kabul said UNAMA head Georgette Gagnon had informed Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi of DiCarlo’s planned visit before the end of January.
According to the ministry, talks between UNAMA and Afghan Taliban have focused on the Doha process, including working groups on counter-narcotics and private sector support.
The visit comes amid continued UN efforts to coordinate dialogue on Afghanistan’s political future, humanitarian needs, and regional stability.
