Mass anti-ICE protests in Minnesota
Despite bitter cold with temperatures starting around −29 °C, organisers said up to 50,000 people marched through the streets of Minneapolis and St Paul to demand that immigration enforcement officers be withdrawn from the Twin Cities in an event called the “Day of Truth and Freedom,” promoted as Minnesota’s first general strike in over 90 years, coming as some 3,000 federal ICE agents have been deployed to the area since December; the protests were also fuelled by a private autopsy this week showing that Renee Good, an unarmed mother of three, was shot in her forearm, breast and head earlier this month, an incident that has heightened tensions between the Trump administration and local officials.
