Raith Rovers v Queen’s Park – match preview

QUEEN’S PARK could play their first Saturday match of 2026 when they head to Kirkcaldy to face Raith Rovers in the William Hill Championship.

After a three week wait, Callum Smith could also make his debut against his old club too.

Through postponements both home and away, Sean Crighton’s side haven’t kicked a ball in anger at the weekend since a 2-2 draw with Partick Thistle on December 27.

Two cup ties, at home to Forfar and away on Tuesday night at Stranraer have been the only competitive action for the Spiders this year.

That should change this weekend as after the Spiders’ trip south and  Tuesday’s long drive home, it’s out east to Fife for Sean Crighton’s side.

The Spiders spent two hours in the wind and rain of Stranraer on Tuesday

Despite the penalty shoot-out defeat to the Blues, Queen’s Park are in otherwise good form having lost just once in 90 minutes in the past eight games – and even that came from an acrobatic injury-time winner from Michael O’Halloran at Cappielow.

As well as the long wait for a Saturday fixture, this weekend also provides striker Smith a chance to finally make a debut, if selected.

He’s been cup tied in both the KDM Evolution Trophy and the Scottish Cup and denied involvement by the cancellations.

Ironically that first appearance for the Spiders could come against his old side – but only this one. Rovers are also Queen’s Park’s next opponents too in Tuesday’s KDM Evolution Trophy quarter final, and he’ll be sidelined again.

First it’s league business though and head coach Sean Crighton is keen to continue the run of results and move up the table with a backlog of fixtures to come.

Looking ahead

Sean Crighton’s head coach previews are sponsored by Glasgow Clyde College.

The head coach, and assistant Jim Duffy, are sponsored by PTS Clean this season.

Sponsorship opportunities are available with Spiders January signing Callum Smith. Call Kieran Koszary on 0141 632 1275 or email kieran@queensparkfc.co.uk for details.

The Season so far...

These sides met on the opening day of the league campaign at Stark’s Park, with Queen’s Park captain and former Rovers defender Euan Murray sitting out injured.

In the end the big kick-off finished 1-1 with a penalty for each side.

Queen’s Park had looked on course for three points until the late award, and that elusive win took a while to come – eventually registered in Dingwall last September.

A second followed, a first at home, and it proved to be the last match for Barry Robson as Rovers manager. He has been replaced in the Fife dugout by Dougie Imrie who has four wins and three draws from his opening ten games in charge.

Mikey Ruth scored the opener on our last trip to Stark's Park

The Rovers are on a two-game losing streak, and sit seven points ahead of Queen’s Park who have three games in hand.
