Grimes Reveals the ‘Huge Debate’ She Has With Ex Elon Musk Over Co-Parenting Rules
Parenting is never immune from disagreements, whether you are raising kids with a partner or an ex. And even celebrities can’t always agree on the best way to bring up children. Grimes recently shared a “huge debate” she has with ex Elon Musk over their co-parenting rules, and it’s one that many parents can probably relate to.
It all started when the singer tweeted about her three kids with Musk, X Æ A-Xii, 5, Exa Dark Sideræl, 4, and Techno Mechanicus, 3. “I try to never talk abt or show my kids because they deserve the right to anonymity but i just have to say their pure aura is unmatched,” she wrote on X, adding that one of her kids “even inexplicably commanded a flock of crows for while.” “Might be biased but this seems unusual,” she commented.
The replies were full of people reacting to this unusual statement, with one person writing, “’Commanded a flock of crows for a while’ is the most Grimes shit anyone could’ve said on the internet.” She responded, “What’s hilarious is my dad also has an allegiant flock of crows.” What an interesting family!
Others praised her, with one person calling it the “Disney princess gene” and another saying, “Some kids have a deeper connection to animals. My father could do all this from when he was a kid. Like he could talk to animals.”
During this exchange, one person asked Grimes if her kids “get screen time,” a common question for parents. (How much is too much? What kind of content is allowed? Is every platform created equal? It’s tough out there!) For Grimes, it’s an added layer of difficulty managing screen time with her tech billionaire ex.
“Huge debate cuz the other parent is fine w it but it’s fairly avoided,” Grimes candidly revealed. “If it happens we focus on great art and ideally slower stuff like ghibli that isn’t constantly changing context.”
She seems to be referring to Studio Ghibli movies, which are made from a Japanese animation studio that teaches lessons on empathy and compassion through adventure. It’s less stimulating than, say, Cocomelon.
This isn’t the first time Grimes has publicly gone against Musk. The “Genesis” singer publicly called out the father of 14 in March for parading their son X around the Oval Office. “I unfortunately do not control the internet and cannot wipe this from the internet,” she wrote on X. “I have tried begging the public and my kids’ dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse.”
She said that her kids being in public is “of grave concern” to her. “It’s insane to me that there’s no way to deal with this,” she continued. “I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives, but I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it tbh.”
It’s hard to control anything your co-parent does when it’s their turn for custody, and we bet it’s the same with screen time. All she can do is her best to provide low-stimulating options at her house and keep her kids’ lives as private as she can, like every other co-parent who disagrees on basic rules has to do. We wish her the best of luck, because we know it can’t be easy!
