Kim Kardashian Defends Her Parenting With Daughter North — & Reveals She Has ‘a Lot of Rules’
North West is growing up, and not everyone is happy with some of her choices. The 12-year-old is showing off diamond grillz, rapping about getting “banned” from school with her dad Kanye West, and getting her finger pierced. Unfairly, people have called out North’s mom Kim Kardashian for her parenting — and she is not having it.
In a new interview with sister Khloé Kardashian for her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, the All’s Fair star cleared the air about her parenting choices and all the rules she has for her preteen.
When asked about all the scrutiny Kim’s under for her parenting, she responded, “I’m just not a judgmental person like that, so I try not to pay attention to it. But, I think that no one knows unless they’re in my shoes what I’m dealing with and how we have to manage certain things from the outside world or even close in our life, that we have to go through together.”
“So, I think like the one misconception that people might have is like, ‘Oh, she’s trying to be her bestie and lets her get away with a lot,’” Kim continued. “Like, no, Northy actually has a lot of rules. … [However,] I do let her express herself. I do let her do that. I love her for that, and she would do it, you know, regardless.”
“It’s funny, like people are like, ‘Oh, this blue hair, all of this, all of a sudden,’ or like her fake piercings that she puts up,” Kim went on. “I have pictures of her when we’re in first grade, pre-K, where she’d come with like a fake septum ring and she has her green braids and she has pink braids. But she’s always loved the colored braids in her hair since she was little.”
“Like she really is who she is and always has been that girl,” she continued. “And so, like, I nurture her.”
In another part of the interview, Kim said, “[North] knew what she wanted from the moment she was born,” Kim confessed.
“I have such a great relationship with my kids, they love me, they respect me, they’re great,” Kim said. “Every kid has phases and have these growing moments and learning moments, and we’ve gotten through all of that. I just love how they grow and evolve.”
This isn’t the first time the SKIMS founder has defended her daughter. In an October appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Kim shared that she encourages her daughter not to listen to the haters.
“I’m like, ‘Babe, if you want blue hair, it is what it is.’ It makes her so happy. I would never take that creative away from her,” The Kardashians star said.
“She’ll be like, ‘Mom, I saw this and I don’t really care if someone says they don’t like my blue hair, or my this or that,’” Kardashian continued. “And she’s really confident and is like, ‘I probably wouldn’t be hanging out with those people.’”
Parenting in the public eye can’t be easy, but we love this approach that Kim takes with her daughter. Good for her!
