Tottenham could sign Jean-Philippe Mateta for a bargain fee after failed summer move
Crystal Palace are willing to allow Tottenham target Jean-Philippe Mateta to leave this month as long as their relatively modest asking price is met.
Spurs continue to have issues upfront, with the club’s top scorer this season, Richarlison, now facing a lengthy spell on the treatment table.
Dominic Solanke is still working his way upto match sharpness after returning from a long-term injury layoff, while Randal Kolo Muani has not demonstrated an eye for goal yet.
The Lilywhites have now discovered that a striker they have chased since the summer is on the market.
Juventus pushing to land Tottenham target Jean-Philippe Mateta
Tottenham failed with a move for Jean-Philippe Mateta in the summer, and it has been reported over recent weeks that Spurs may try again for the Crystal Palace striker in January.
It has now been reported by CaughtOffside that Juventus are pushing to land Mateta before the January window shuts.
The Bianconeri see the 28-year-old as ‘an ideal option’ to lead the line, owing to his physical presence and aerial dominance.
With Champions League qualification on the line, the Serie A giants are determined to secure the French international before the window slams shut.
Crystal Palace name asking price for Mateta
CaughtOffside say that Juve initially offered a £1.7m loan fee for Mateta, along with a £24.5m obligation to buy, which was conditional on the Italian side qualifying for Europe.
This was rejected by Palace, but talks between the Serie A club and the Premier League side are continuing over the centre-forward.
The Eagles are willing to sell Mateta this month, but only if their £35m asking price is met. The report does not make any mention of Spurs potentially entering the bidding war for the striker.
