Red Sox’s Garrett Crochet Honored Among MLB’s Elite In Top-100 Rankings
MLB Network recognized Garrett Crochet’s ascension into a top-shelf ace.
Crochet morphed into an elite starting pitcher during his first season with the Boston Red Sox, registering a 2.59 ERA and MLB-high 255 strikeouts. The 26-year-old earned a spot among baseball’s biggest stars in MLB Network’s top-100 player rankings.
As announced Wednesday night, Crochet resides at No. 12 in the offseason player rankings. He joins Roman Anthony (No. 41), Jarren Duran (No. 58), Ranger Suárez (No. 79) and Aroldis Chapman (No. 84) as the Red Sox players honored.
Crochet ranks one spot ahead of Los Angeles Dodgers postseason hero Yoshinobu Yamamoto in a 10-player grouping also featured former Red Sox stars Mookie Betts (No. 18) and Kyle Schwarber (No. 17). The southpaw was No. 56 in last year’s top 100 upon joining Boston from the Chicago White Sox.
MLB disclosed the top-10 players in alphabetical order before revealing the final rankings Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. No more Boston players make the cut, and Cy Young Award winners Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes are the only pitchers present.
After injuries derailed the start to his career, Crochet moved to the rotation to pitch a career-high 146 innings for Chicago in 2024. The Red Sox saw enough in that sample size to send Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez to the White Sox before promptly awarding their trade acquisition a six-year, $170 million extension.
Crochet is now making that contract look like a massive bargain after eschewing workload concerns to work 205 1/3 innings in 2025. He then pitched a masterful gem to start the postseason, allowing one run with 11 strikeouts over 7 2/3 frames in a win over the New York Yankees.
Another dominant season could put Crochet in the running for the 2026 AL Cy Young Award and a spot in next year’s top 10.
