Three Killed in Shooting in Australia’s New South Wales
Three people were killed and another wounded in a shooting in Australia’s New South Wales, with police searching for suspects and motives still unclear.
International media reported that three people were killed in a shooting in the Australian state of New South Wales, raising fresh concerns about public safety.
The Associated Press reported on Thursday that the shooting took place in the town of Lake Cargelligo, where one additional person was injured.
Local police said the victims included two women and one man, adding that the attackers fled the scene and have not yet been arrested.
Australia has experienced relatively low levels of gun violence compared with many countries, following strict gun control laws introduced after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.
Despite these laws, isolated shootings still occur, often shocking communities, particularly in small towns unaccustomed to violent crime.
The shooting coincided with Australia’s National Day of Mourning, observed in memory of victims of the Hanukkah celebration attack.
In December last year, a shooting at a Hanukkah event in Sydney killed 15 people, marking one of the deadliest recent attacks in the country.
Police said investigations are ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward as the search for suspects continues.
