Wednesday night high school roundup: Los Gatos knocks off Los Altos, SHC boys soccer stuns St. Francis
Los Gatos 46, No. 20 Los Altos 35
Los Gatos (11-5, 4-1) pulled off a stunner in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s De Anza Division, reasserting its hegemony over the top league with a road win over a Los Altos team (14-3, 4-1) that had emerged as the top contender to displace the Wildcats.
The Cats were the beneficiaries of a balanced effort from the field, as seven players got on the scoresheet. Rita Zhou led Los Gatos with 11 points, Jenna Webb added 10 and Hanna Behnami added nine.
Taylor Ware led Los Altos with 14 points, also adding a pair of rebounds and steals, and Ella McFarlane chipped in 12 with six rebounds and two steals.
Though Los Gatos lost its 41-game winning streak in the De Anza earlier this year, it’s clear that the Cats are still a force to be reckoned with. And they just put themselves back in pole position for another league title.
“It was a really solid team win top to bottom,” Los Gatos coach Sara Quilici Giles said. 7 people scored and everyone contributed. The bench energy was on fire, and we stayed really calm and collected under pressure. I was most proud of the rebounding efforts all around.”

BOYS BASKETBALL
Sacred Heart Prep 59, Menlo School 52 (OT)
An overtime thriller materialized on Wednesday night in Atherton, where Kai Mawakana’s putback with 4.3 seconds to play forced the extra session for Menlo (9-7, 1-2). Tres Onyekekwe’s block as time expired ensured Sacred Heart Prep wouldn’t have any last-second heroics in regulation.
But SHP (14-3, 3-0) took charge in the added minutes, shooting 60% from the field and scoring 13 points to put the Knights away.
Alex Osterloh led the Gators with 13 points and seven assists, while Matt Osterloh paced SHP on the boards with 13 rebounds and 12 points.
