Investment commitment for cultural venues welcomed
Liverpool City Council is welcoming the government’s announcement of a £1.5 billion investment in arts venues, museums, libraries and heritage buildings across the country.
Local organisations and venues are among the organisations that could benefit from funding to improve the infrastructure of buildings and carry out repairs between now and 2030.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “This commitment to the arts and culture shows the government recognises the value and the contribution it makes to enriching lives.
“Liverpool is a city that has used culture to transform its fortunes, using it as a golden thread to create a strong and thriving sector that supports tens of thousands of jobs and generates billions of pounds in economic benefit.
“In tandem with this, we have supported our cultural institutions, large and small, through our Cultural Arts and Investment Programme, helping sustain and grow their work in reaching local, regional and national audiences.
“We welcome this significant commitment to the arts and culture from the government and look forward to working with them to explore opportunities to support and grow the sector in Liverpool.”
