Seth Meyers rips into Trump over worrying moment from president's Davos speech

Seth Meyers has observed a worrying moment in Donald Trump's Davos speech, with the president making a major error.

The Late Night talk show host ripped into Trump for mixing up the names of Greenland and Iceland. Trump referred to Iceland erroneously in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, several times. But the slip-up may be a sign of a more worrying problem in the background, with Meyers comparing the confusion to that of President Joe Biden.

He said, "Joe Biden used to mix up the names of countries all the time and it was a huge story. But he was never threatening to invade any of the countries he was mixing up. This is so much worse.

"We have an addled 79-year-old with his finger on the button who could, at any point, order a military invasion of the wrong country."

Meyers went on to share his thoughts on Trump's dwindling polling numbers. One recent Reuters/Ipsos poll finding just 17% of Americans approve of Trump's efforts to acquire Greenland.

"Americans don't want any of this," Meyers said, "which is why his polling numbers keep hitting new lows. He's already at 37%, and he's only one year into his term."

Fellow talk show host Jimmy Kimmel branded the hour and 10 minute-long speech an "offensive" onslaught from Trump.

Kimmel said, "He rolled into Davos like a bull in a China shop. The room was jam packed for Trump's speech, they reportedly had to turn away a number of heads of state because there was not enough room. Those who did get in enjoyed an all you can eat buffet of buffoonery.

"These speeches really are something to behold. They will be studied for many, many decades to come. It was not what you might call a charm offensive, it was offensive, yes, but very little charm.

"He loves bragging about our American contributions during World War 2, as if he had anything to do with that. Trump didn't win World War 2, his dad didn't help win World War 2, his grandad didn't help win World War 2, none of them served."
