UN Security Council condemns deadly attack on Chinese restaurant in Kabul
UN Security Council members strongly condemned a terrorist attack on a Chinese restaurant in Kabul, calling for accountability and justice for victims.
Members of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday night issued a statement condemning the terrorist attack on a Chinese restaurant in Kabul’s Shahr-e-Naw area.
The council expressed condolences to the families of the victims and extended sympathy to the people and governments of Afghanistan and China.
Security Council members stressed the need to hold those responsible for planning, carrying out and supporting the attack fully accountable.
They reiterated that terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, remains a serious threat to peace and security in Afghanistan and worldwide.
Afghanistan has witnessed a series of deadly attacks in recent years, with armed groups targeting civilians, foreign nationals and public places despite heightened security measures.
The Islamic State’s Khorasan branch has repeatedly claimed responsibility for high-profile attacks, particularly those involving foreign interests in the country.
The latest attack was claimed by Islamic State, killing six Afghan citizens and one Chinese national, while several others, including a child, were wounded.
The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of foreign nationals and diplomatic missions operating in Afghanistan.
The Security Council reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism and supporting international efforts to prevent future attacks.
It also underscored the importance of international cooperation to ensure stability and protect civilians from extremist violence.
