Man Utd now discussing deal to sign £8m midfielder, 5 recoveries/game this season
Manchester United have held talks to sign Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi this winter, according to journalist Alan Myers.
The Red Devils are planning to reinforce their midfield department and have already been linked with several names.
Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves was mentioned as a target earlier this month, but he has his sights on joining Real Madrid.
The club have been linked with AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek too, but no approach has been made for the Englishman.
Amidst this, Myers has revealed that United have established contact to sign Besiktas’ Ndidi.
The Nigerian midfielder is anxious to return to English football, having previously spent almost a decade with Leicester City.
Myers wrote on X: “My contacts in Turkey tell me Manchester United have had talks about Wilfred Ndidi, the player is anxious to return to England.”
Man Utd could secure winter deal for Ndidi
United currently have Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte as their defensive midfielders, but the latter has been hugely inconsistent this campaign.
There has been an overreliance on Casemiro. The Brazilian has had a good season, but he does not have the legs to last 90 minutes at his age.
This could be a reason behind the club’s pursuit of Ndidi, who was a standout midfielder for the Foxes during their time in the Premier League.
Ndidi has continued to impress with Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig. He has won 5.6 duels per game alongside 5.1 recoveries, 3.2 clearances and 2.7 tackles.
He is a solid holding midfielder and would provide good backup off the bench for the Red Devils.
Besiktas signed him for around £8 million from Leicester last summer. A slightly higher offer could persuade them to part ways with the 29-year-old.
If Ndidi were to join the Red Devils, questions could be raised about Ugarte’s future. Ajax recently failed with a loan approach for the Uruguay international.
