‘The Abandons’ and ‘The Vince Staples Show’ Axed at Netflix
Netflix is no longer moving forward with “The Abandons” and “The Vince Staples Show,” TheWrap has learned. The streamer canceled the Western drama starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson after one season and the biographical comedy after two seasons.
No reason was given for either show’s cancellation, but neither was performing particularly well. “The Abandons” was more widely watched, securing 19.8 million views during the second half of 2025. Since the series premiered on Dec. 4, those viewership numbers do not reflect all of Season 1’s views in its first 91 days, the period of time Netflix typically uses when reporting viewership trends. The drama was set in the 1850s Old West and followed Fiona Nolan (Headey) and her found family of four adult orphans as they struggled against silver mine owner Constance Van Ness (Anderson).
“The Abandons” had a troubled history well before its cancellation. Series showrunner Kurt Sutter, known for creating “Sons of Anarchy,” left the show before the end of production. Netflix will continue to work with Headey on its upcoming crime thriller series from “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker.
As for “The Vince Staples Show,” which premiered Season 2 in November of last year, that series wasn’t as widely watched as “The Abandons.” In the second half of 2025, the show saw a combined 3.1 million views across both seasons. The first half of the year only saw 600,000 views. Created by rapper Vince Staples alongside Ian Edelman and Maurice Williams, the series was a satirized version of Staples’ life.
Netflix has already announced several renewals for some of its bigger shows, including Season 6 of “Emily in Paris,” Season 3 of “Nobody Wants This,” Season 2 of “The Hunting Wives,” Season 3 of “Wednesday,” Season 8 of “Virgin River” and Seasons 5 and 6 of “Bridgerton.”
