Paul Robinson reveals promising thing he saw from Tottenham ‘dressing room’ on Tuesday
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has now offered his assessment of Spurs’ performance against Borussia Dortmund and what it suggested about the relationship between the players and their manager.
It will for sure feel like déjà vu for many Tottenham Hotspur fans observing how the current season is playing out.
Spurs cannot seem to catch a break in the Premier League, struggling to secure much-needed wins against opposition they should be beating, and sitting precariously close to the relegation zone.
However, in Europe, they are flying, currently finding themselves in the top eight – the automatic qualification spots – with a game still to come next week.
The patterns from last season feel familiar, but whether Thomas Frank and his side can deliver back-to-back European trophies in the space of 12 months remains to be seen.
Paul Robinson says Tottenham players backed Thomas Frank
The league, however, is often the bread and butter for top sides, and with domestic results faltering, pressure has naturally intensified on the Dane.
There were reports that a managerial change was being considered following the disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham United last weekend.
There had even been talks that Thomas Frank may be losing the Tottenham dressing room, with several players no longer playing for the Dane.
However, after the victory over Borussia Dortmund, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson offered his assessment of the performance and what it suggested about the relationship between the players and their manager.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, He said: “That is a win that is desperately needed. Nobody will look at the performance. Nobody will look at how the team was set up.
“That was crucial for the manager this evening. There was so much speculation about his future going into this game tonight, some people believing that he was already done, that he was finished before tonight, but actually what I saw tonight was not a performance where the manager had lost the dressing room.
“There has been a lot of talk of a disjointed dressing room. That was not there tonight. It was not full here, the fans voted with their feet, but that was a group of players that played for their manager.”
Spurs result offers breathing space for Frank
While the media has consistently stated that Frank’s job is under severe scrutiny, the Dane has maintained a positive outlook throughout.
He labelled the sack talk a media circus and claimed that he retains the backing of the Tottenham board.
A victory of this magnitude, combined with the performance on display, is undoubtedly a positive step in the right direction, and if Frank can deliver such displays consistently, he will bring the disgruntled Spurs faithful back on side.
Frank has also made clear how he plans to win supporters back, stating that results will ultimately be the deciding factor.
