Santurce Cangrejeros win Puerto Rico 'Roberto Clemente' pro league
Santurce Cangrejeros defeated Ponce Leones in six games in the best-of-nine final series to claim the 2025-26 Roberto Clemente League in Puerto Rico. It's their 17th pennant and first since the 2019-20 season.
The Cangrejeros succeeded the Mayaguez Indios.
After winning a close Game One, Santurce dominated the series. The sixth game, played in front of a sellout crowd at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, was no exception.
Ponce starter Jackson Goddard allowed three walks between the second and the third inning. He helped himself with three strikeouts, but a defensive error gave the Cangrejeros a lead they wouldn't surrender.
Jack Lopez doubled to add a run in the fourth. Ponce had their best scoring chance in the fifth. The Leones put two runners on base against Santurce starter Ashton Goudeau. Left-handed reliever Jordan Morales loaded the bases with a walk, then retired the side in order. He would earn the win.
Brian Navarreto, Andrew Velazquez, and Johneshwy Fargas had one RBI each in the eighth to open the score.
Santurce's first baseman, Yohandy Morales, earned MVP honours. The Washington National of Major League Baseball (MLB) top prospect posted a .386 batting average with one home run, three doubles and four RBIs.
